ECOTONES CAMPS

The most ethnic experiences

SOUTH INDIA - Kerala, Munnar

Ecotones was born out of a passion to bring guests closer to nature. While most hotels and resorts utilize the beauty of nature and the wilderness to sell themselves, there are very few that give back to nature or contribute to conservation in any way. Eco-tourism - responsible travel to natural areas that does not damage the environment, contributes to its conservation, and improves the well-being of local people - is an ethical option and Ecotones attempts to imbibe this culture in its true sense. Guests can indulge in nature-oriented exploratory activities such as bird watching and nature trails or can just sit back and enjoy the scenic view. With activities such as cycling and guided nature walks, we hope to take people one step closer to nature and inculcate an interest for the natural world through observation and learning about its many intricacies.

ECOLOGICALLY SUSTAINABLE
Mud houses are ample proof of how hard we try to be ecologically sustainable. We discourage the use of plastic bottles and offer drinking water only in re-usable glass bottles. Exotic food is not offered, and ingredients are sourced locally as far as possible.

LOCAL INTERACTIONS
Interacting with the locals of an area gives one a great glimpse into culture and life in general. This also includes facilitating interactions amongst children from rural, urban and international schools from India and abroad.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Ecotones also conducts small programs including awareness sessions about nature and wildlife, and informative discussions with locals. We practise organic farming, local clean-up drives and planting tree saplings to reach out to the public about the necessity for nature conservation.

STYLE to experience

BORN OUT OF A PASSION

What makes Ecotones stand out from the crowd?

While most hotels or resorts at Munnar resemble a concrete jungle, Ecotones is a breath of fresh air: literally and figuratively. Ecotones blends in with its surroundings. Roofs are thatched with reeds, which were harvested sustainably by our Muduvan (a forest tribe of Kerala) friends. The thatches are not treated with chemicals to last longer, as they usually are. Skilled Muduvan workers hand-crafted mud-bricks from earth that was readily available in our campus to construct our mud houses, in their traditional style.

Most of our staff are locals, who get their training in accordance with contemporary tourism standards. Many fruits and vegetables are also sourced locally, so that local farmers, small businessmen & women profit from Ecotones, ensuring community involvement and upliftment.

Guests can visit local farmers, interact with them and try their hand at harvesting organic produce too. Plastic mineral water bottles are not offered; instead local spiced water is available free of cost in re-usable glass bottles. No televisions grace the rooms, with the hope that guests will venture out and see the beauty of nature around.
